About Witch Vine

Who?

We are an Olympia based artist collective started by three roommates: Sam Hall, Justine Ricca, and Izzy Hope (pictured from left to right in the above trio). Witch Vine as a collective is made up of more than just us. We are community based group and we rely on the work of many amazing creatives. Actors, visual artists, musicians, dancers, people who just want to hang out and hold a boom mic, etc!

TLDR: We are a group of creatives!

What?

We make larger-scale community based art projects. Our first project, a film titled Harmonious, was a rousing success being premiered at Capitol Theater (via Olympia Film Society) to an audience of nearly 100 people. And that's just the beginning! We plan on expanding our creative ventures and sharing more stories through varied mediums!

TLDR: We make film projects and hopefully other stuff soon!

Why?

Our focus is on building and uplifting our community through the arts. In times of uncertainty and unease what brings us hope is community. Oftentimes, getting to work on largescale projects can have prohibitive bars to entry. It takes a whole lot of money or a whole lot of talented people... and we've got one of those! We are lucky enough to be surrounded by an immensely talented and ever growing group of friends, classmates, neighbors, coworkers, family, and community members! What we lack in budget we make up for in passion, drive, joy... and free food.

TLDR: Creativity and community are important!

No But... Why the Name Witch Vine?

The name comes from an inside joke between Justine, Izzy, and Sam. As the story goes Izzy was hanging up a fake vine, and Justine said 'you can probably just put the tack directly into the vine'. To which Izzy responded 'which vine?', as if she were in a jungle full of vines, and not standing on a couch holding the only vine in the apartment. The resulting reaction was a moment of stunned laughter from both parties and an understanding that we had just made our first real inside joke. And a long-time friendship was cemented as we laughed at the absurdity.

We felt that Witch Vine felt more right than 'Which Vine?'. There was no question. We were a group of magical creatives with the intention of branching out and connecting with our community. Which vine? Witch Vine.

TLDR: ...you had to be there.
